Allie F 02/04/2022 The story of Alan Turing and what others did at Bletchley Park is one that the world should know about. Of course, for cinematic purposes, the narrative heavily leans on a specific storyline that does take artistic license on the actual events that took place historically. The truth is that there were many heroes in the war, and there are still other untold stories of efforts just as valiant. That said, Cumberbatch and Knightly did a great job in conveying some of the complex feelings and emotions that arose from many difficult situations. Despite the departure from some historical details and facts, it's a well-made film. One I've watched multiple times since. It's heartbreaking what Turing had to undergo after what he helped do, and definitely a tear jerker for that reason. Great movie. What Worked: Tyldum’s framing of the ticking machine builds crazy tension, and Cumberbatch just vanishes into the role. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing a man use his God-given intellect to save millions, only to be broken by society, deeply reinforced my values about grace and loving our neighbors. The Cuts: Framing Turing as a lone-wolf erased the team’s massive effort. The forced spy subplot stalled the momentum; it was just spinning its wheels to add drama. Keeping it spoiler-free, stereotyping him as an “arrogant genius” totally clashes with real accounts of his sociable personality. Verdict: A gripping thriller and a must-watch for Cumberbatch, but skip if you demand factual accuracy. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a career-defining performance as Alan Turing, portraying his genius and vulnerability with incredible nuance. He avoids "difficult genius" clichés, making Turing’s struggle feel deeply personal and human. The supporting cast, led by Keira Knightley’s sharp and warm portrayal of Joan Clarke, provides the perfect emotional anchor to the high-stakes code-breaking at Bletchley Park. The film brilliantly balances the tension of the race against the Enigma machine with the tragic reality of Turing’s later life. While it takes some dramatic liberties, the movie succeeds in its most important mission: honoring a man who saved millions of lives but was persecuted for who he loved. It is an exhilarating, heartbreaking, and essential piece of cinema that ensures Turing’s legacy will never be forgotten. A perfect 5-star achievement. What's bother me is : was it true they have found how to decipher a month after bulding a hundred thousand pound machine cause they were mathematician or is it just a bad part in the film writting ?
