Helen I @HelenI 3d This was an utterly ridiculous and thoroughly enjoyable typical Michael Bay film, epic stunts and massive explosions throughout. Complete waste of Scarlett Johansson but a good way of explaining to my teenager how awful the 2000s and lad-mag culture was for women. Also, worth it for seeing "Good Ewan/Evil Ewan" and the incredible amount of product placement. Nonsense but hilarious. The cinematography is pretty eye-popping for a chase and destruction pic - warm color pallets, a lot going into production design, just to have everything torn up in the action. I guess the genre would be pegged as SciFi/Thriller, and it's not a particularly great example of either genre, but somehow threads the needle because the leads, whose sense of imperilment and being in danger felt real enough, and engaged empathy from myself and perhaps most viewers. The plot is derivative of the classic Logan's Run and isn't well thought through with some plot holes, but there's a sense of fun and rooting for the two good-looking but naive leads that somehow carries the picture and does it with a sort of ridiculous sense of fun. It’s better if you don’t think too deeply about the story and take it at face value because the film is well paced and interesting. The cast are all good although it’s strange they blurred Scarlett Johansson’s face in some close-ups. I found the cinematography ugly, the sound design and music excellent. The special effects are mostly good, especially for 2005, with the exception of the flying motorbike. I like the heavy use of practical effects and explosions, thanks Michael Bay.
