Movie Info

About 100 kilometers from Kabul, Salim Shaheen, the most popular and prolific actor-producer of Afghanistan, came to screen some of his 110 films and shoot the 111th in a row. This journey, in which he has led his band of actors, all more eccentric and uncontrollable than any other, is the opportunity to meet this lover of cinema, who makes relentless Z Series films in a country in War for more than thirty years. Nothingwood delivers the story of a lifetime spent accomplishing a childhood dream.

[A] funny and affectionate documentary portrait of veteran Afghan movie mogul Salim Shaheen: actor, producer, director and creator of more than 100 features.

Salim Shaheen is known as 'the Ed Wood of Afghanistan', so this documentary is as eccentric as you might expect.

[An] amusing, at times rousing, tribute to a man called the Ed Wood of Afghanistan, someone whose larger-than-life presence makes him more suited to being in front of the camera than behind it.

It's an entertaining and eye-opening doc.

Even if the facts are fiction, you still get the sense of a man who is driven, at least in part, by an urge to bring some sort of happiness by shooting film rather than bullets.
