Movie Info

On a star-filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas Jacobs (Michael Paré) finds shelter for the night when he stumbles across a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls in, thinking he just caught a lucky break, and it would appear for a while as though he did. Soon enough, Thomas realizes that the house won't let him leave, as all of its doors are locked and its windows cannot be opened or broken.

  • More B-movies could stand to be like "The Shelter," which at least tries to tie its darkness to something real.

  • Here the haunted house is but an outward manifestation of a haunted man, damned by his own lack of fidelity, if not faith.

  • It's a film full of questions and not very many clear answers, but it's very worth seeing as it's a well-crafted directorial debut made by a small team on a small budget which makes the most of it by looking and sounding great.

  • For all its anger and impressive visuals, The Shelter is a meditative piece about moving from confusion to the acceptance of something perhaps cannot be fully understood.

  • The Shelter is enjoyable, well made and ably acted. It is definitely worth a look for fans of psychological slow burns.
