It's no wonder I don't really revisit this. It's a lesser Carpenter work. That's not to say it's bad, it's certainly passable, but this material is just not good enough for him. Besides it being pretty trite, it just feels small. It belongs as just another episode of Masters of Horrors. It's too bad this is the one he went out on...
It's standard teenage horror fare... jump scares, loud bangs and a terrible twist. But there is one awesome scare in it that really got me good so it gets 2* for that.
Film menor de Carpenter que conserva su touch
John Carpenter's so-called 'comeback' is by no means a bad entry on any level. The intro credit sequence is striking and very memorable. The quick revelation at the very end does strengthen the overall experience but never once is 'The Ward' scary or viscerally thrilling like Carpenter's previous horror entries. The performances are somewhat inconsistent however Carpenter's old-fashioned classical Hollywood wide shots are gorgeous.
Not terribly bad, underrated, john carpenter brings some good twist to this horror/triller.
Nothing great, but decent enough.
What happened to John Carpenter? Just nothing original and unlike previous films the music score is poor. Sad. Hopefully Carpenter will return to form.
The most uncharacteristic Carpenter film of all time. The acting was awful, the shots were dull, the camera work was bad, the music was horrible and the twist was so lame. This is not a John Carpenter at all. Amber Heard is terrible.
Not as bad as you've been led to believe
Utterly unimpressive psychological thriller that tries really hard to be interesting but just ends up feeling tremendously disappointing. The horror is slow-paced and cliched and the ending is not the shocker it wants to be.
