Jason S @RT51713650 Sep 5, 2026 Burton is very good as Wagner and with a great supporting cast with the likes of John Gielguld and Lawrence Oliver. I'm a big fan of Burton but even I have only watched the entire film once because of the film's runtime of almost 8 hours. Tony Palmers direction is very good but if you want the main story in half the time there is (or at least was) a trimmed down version released on VHS that runs just under 4 hours. I'm not sure if it got a DVD release or not. See more Aug 28, 2011 This film's only saving grace is Sir Georg Solti's stunning interpretations of Wagner's music.
