Eight strangers around the globe find themselves connected -- first by a violent vision, then by their shared ability to connect with one another's thoughts and actions, and finally by the urgent need to find out what happened and why. Their need to know goes beyond simple curiosity -- as they pursue answers, a mysterious organization hunts them down, intent on destroying them. The intense thriller is the first foray into television (or, more accurately, Netflix) for renowned filmmakers Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski ("The Matrix Reloaded"), who created the series with J. Michael Straczynski ("Thor"). The international cast includes veteran actors known to U.S. audiences, like Daryl Hannah ("Kill Bill") and Naveen Andrews ("Lost"), and others well-known in their home countries, like German actor Max Riemelt and Doona Bae of South Korea. In keeping with the global premise of the series, shooting takes place all over the world, including London, Reykjavik, Nairobi and Mumbai.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Sense8 maintains its stunning visuals, Wachowski wackiness, and great heart -- though its individual characters deserve more development.

Sense8 avoids tokenizing its characters, which involves giving each sensate a full backstory that helps viewers understand what motivates them. Go to Full Review

The season premiere doesn't feature any of those over-the-top sequences, instead relying on the more measured and delicately unfolding thrills that Sense8 thrived on in its earliest episodes. Go to Full Review

If I had to boil what I love about Sense8 down to a top three, I'd say that the show's greatest assets are montages, orgy scenes, and group hugs. Go to Full Review

Sense8 does not fail on race, but it's important to note that Wachowskis and their collaborators are trying to dissolve the boundaries of skin color through a lens that is still white and Eurocentric. Go to Full Review

Season 2 is such a beautiful examination of the themes of love, human relationships, and what identity is that the messy or less enthralling moments are worth pushing through. Go to Full Review

David D @Viscro Feb 10 I cannot comprehend how good this show is. It isn't perfect, but its peaks are so overwhelmingly good, that I gladly forgive its flaws. The fact that this show manages to have 8 main characters and do each and every one of them justice is a remarkable achievement by itself. But Sense8 is also a sci-fi story with a completely unique premise, flawlessly coreographed action scenes, and incredible cinematography that gets as close to capturing the experience of being a senseate as is possible within the confines of this medium. And all that without CGI, shot on location all over the world, with 8 characters. But most of all, Sense8 manages to fire off volley after volley of emotional moments without missing the mark even once. I can't remember any show, movie, book or videogame that managed to evoke so many feelings in me. I don't use this word lightly, but Sense8 is truly a masterpiece. Its only unforgiveable flaw is that it clearly could've used one more season, but that's on Netflix. See more Lee 05/24/2024 Amazing show, seriously sad it got canceled. See more Al P 09/10/2023 4/5 Start. It is very interesting and full of action. Removing one star because of: - excessive LGBT+ propaganda - the last 2 episodes are really rushed as they really wanted to pack up and finish the show. It's a shame it ended this way. See more Gabriel 01/01/2023 Can't believe I waited this long to watch it! I watched all the episodes and finished the whole series in no time, it is a masterpiece! See more Johanna O 10/11/2022 I liked this season better than the first. See more 08/02/2022 What I truly like about this show is it always promotes positivity in each episodes. You wouldn't bother so much about the plot because every episode has satisfying consequences but you will continue watching because you love the characters and how amazing their cluster is.
