Season 2
13 Reasons Why
By deviating from its source material, 13 Reasons Why can better explore its tenderly crafted characters; unfortunately, in the process, it loses track of what made the show so gripping in the first place.

Critic Reviews for 13 Reasons Why Season 2
All Critics (52) | Top Critics (21) | Fresh (14) | Rotten (38)
The second season of Netflix's controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why has fans asking a lot of questions.
13 takes some of the heat off itself with an over-packed second season that doesn't quite walk back the controversies of the first, but attempts to talk them back.
Season 2 is a worthy attempt at a do-over, if a flawed one.
13 Reasons Why features no shortage of missteps. But it's a show that so deeply feels for its characters, so deeply feels these scenarios, that it's hard to be mad at it.
13 Reasons Why season two is uncomfortable but remarkable viewing...
There is not nearly enough hope, for the characters or the audience.
With the exception of a solid performance again by the talented Dylan Minnette, the Brian Yorkey-showrun adaptation has run out of gas and source material.
While the show is explicit, and not everyone's cup of tea, I do believe that if you have the mindset to look beyond the obscenities, you'd understand that it's story that needs to be told.
There was no good reason to bring 13 Reasons Why back for a second season.
This new season is frustrating at times, and silly during much of its run, but there are still scenes of caring friendship, of tentative romance or raw loneliness that make up for some of the trite and forced plot developments.
As the show evolves from a mystery and teen drama into a courtroom drama, it quickly loses its footing. The result is an inessential season of TV that revels in misery.
Because the first season covered the entire novel this new batch of episodes attempt to keep the story going. There's one fatal flaw: It really is just rewinding itself, going over everything that happened previously but with added twists.
Audience Reviews for 13 Reasons Why: Season 2
-
Jan 31, 202113 Reasons Why has become a soap opera.
-
Jan 02, 2021Lost elements that made it great in Season 1

Dec 11, 2020I love this season of 13rw i would say it's my fav out of the 4th the ending when clay Jensen talks at Hannah's funeral is buetiful and this season is my fav the soundtrack is so good too you won't be disappointed

Nov 20, 2020Whilst it's probably not perfect it shows so many problems in society today. Research has shown that these things happen and they happen a lot. Research has also shown that if we do not see things it's easier for us to ignore the existence of it f.ex. child porn. It is a huge problem, but not enough people are doing something about it. So whilst this is very graphic and sooo painful to watch, it's also necessary. Not showing these graphic scenes is what actually romanticizes and glamourizes real problems like this.
-
Nov 15, 2020Even more abominable than its predecessor, season 2 successfully mangled every critique it has received and gave an ignorantly vile portrayal of mental health issues. American Psychological Association banning this series from viewing for reason of harmfully and poorly handling the subject matter is an ideal solution.
-
Nov 10, 2020Do not watch this show. Period. From its portrayal of suicide, to rape, to school shootings, it sends every wrong message bundled with some of the worst acting in a teen drama I've ever seen :)
-
Oct 21, 2020They screwed everything up.
-
Sep 12, 2020It was a decent followup to season 1, but there's lots to be desired. A lot of unnecessary conflict. Some of the writing choices seemed to have been made at the expense of character & story development. I wish the ending was different. Tyler's character arc in particular could've been so much better.
-
Jul 10, 202013 Reasons Why really seems like a one concept show that should only be a single season. However surprisingly season 2 does a great job of expanding this concept and brining more depth to its characters.
-
Jun 29, 2020The main character has a complete psychotic break with reality. Everyone is as stupid as is humanly possible and you wish that there would be a gas leak or a bomb to put the school out of its misery.
