Angela’s life appears idyllic: a lovely house in suburban London, days working volunteer shifts at a dog shelter, two beautiful sons and a charming, hard-working husband – Olivier. However, beneath this façade of charmed domesticity, Angela is a victim of domestic violence. Olivier is controlling and brutal; but Angela loves him and he’s the father of her children. She covers her bruises with make- up and fabricates lies to explain away her missing teeth. Until, one day, Angela is approached by Ed – a Private Investigator - and he smashes her already strained domestic life to pieces. Ed reveals Olivier’s deepest secrets to Angela, and she is faced with horrifying truths about her husband and his betrayals being forced to take matters into her own hands.

Critics Consensus

Joanne Froggatt reminds viewers that she can ably carry any mystery -- even one as dour and implausible as Angela Black.

If your taste runs to dark, slow-burning British thrillers, there's a good one to recommend. But be aware it has a serious theme, specifically domestic abuse and coercive control. Go to Full Review

Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt stars in a dark but eminently watchable six-parter from prolific British brothers Harry and Jack Williams. Go to Full Review

A high level of suspense and relentless deception carries a feeling of anxiety and distress throughout each episode of this mystery series. Go to Full Review

What works most intelligently in the Williams' world is the configuration of the home space as progressively unsafe territory. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Gary K @RT77201566 05/12/2024 Spoilers in the following, if you're daft enough to want to watch it. It was horribly lacking in creativity. Strangers on a Train.... AGAIN.... for goodness sake, how do producers continue to get a budget to plagiarise this film time and time again. Aside from that, the plot throws together too many unbelievable elements, from a person who's raison d'etre is providing solutions to intractable problems that complete strangers have, to a convoluted and extremely complex plot to sway a custody hearing, to having a dimwit main character who spends the best part of 5 and a half episodes doing the most stupid things possible but suddenly comes up with another convoluted plan to get revenge and solve her problem - which involves someone allowing her to trash his business, for, well, I'm not even sure what he got out of it - the show seemed to suggest it was because he was driven to be the catalyst in other people's chaos - yes, the believablitly was that stretched. Oh, and a clever, sly, manipulate villain who is always two steps ahead of her, except when he loses his cool in front of his own CCTV which he idiotically forgets to delete. It's easy to build up tension over 5+ episodes by walling in the victim with ever more inescapable situations, but it takes clever writing to have a satisfying resolution at the end of it. This show doesn't. An over use of tense music is no substitute. The professional reviewers mostly only watch the first episode, watching to the end sees the house of cards collapse in on itself. See more KB B @Okbullard 11/11/2023 I enjoyed this series. Sure one can usually find plot holes and inconsistencies in Manny movies/series but this one was still compelling with decent acting. It's worth the watch. 3.5 stars See more Niki M @RT49538820 08/25/2023 Angela and her handsome husband both drive expensive large SUVs... which is just as well because there are very large plot holes that they have to drive through. The series tries really hard to keep up the suspense with an almost overpowering soundtrack of threatening music playing over long extreme close-ups, but the show would have benefitted by being cut in half. The length requires all sorts of sub-plots which do little apart from slowing everything down. And the ending is not as satisfying as it could have been... the great big reveal almost comes across as an afterthought. Having said all that, though, it is mildly entertaining. See more Brian W @RT76534445 06/21/2023 Couldn't get passed episode two. Every trope in the book, no tension and cringeworthy script. Another high-end, stylish property with predictable scenario going on within. Yawn. See more Coco L @Breukelen 06/20/2023 I cannot stop watching this series. It's captivating and has been a great several evenings of tv. See more Read all reviews
