Critic Consensus: The war between Jimmy and Chuck comes to an unprecedented climax in the heartbreaking, sober, and defining "Chicanery," an episode that clearly cements Better Call Saul as essential television.
Critic reviews for Chicanery
[Chicanery] used the cruddy boardroom of a State Bar of New Mexico hearing to topple a domino line that had been patiently set up for two and half seasons. Our hero was absolved and damned in the same moment, while his nemesis-his brother-was just damned.
Saul has done such excellent work in establishing who both Jimmy and Chuck are, and what they've done to each other over a lifetime of brotherhood. The way this episode exposes it is why this is one of the strongest dramas on television today.
This riveting episode was further proof that Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, and the rest of the team really know how to strike the perfect balance.
"Chicanery" showcases everything that's best about Better Call Saul.
