I think the network will have to work a little harder to find something unique to say outside of the crime of the week.

It remains to be seen if the show can pull off a completely new and interesting take on the character, but the fact that it has more going on than just being a killer of the week show has us hopeful.

In a television landscape littered with gruesome procedurals and compelling female protagonists, "Clarice" feels less like a trailblazer and more like a three-decades-later attempt to catch up.
February 19, 2021
These heavy themes seem to butt heads with the construct of a CBS procedural and end up being played out fairly chunkily.
February 19, 2021
"Clarice" feels like a cheap knockoff that squanders its source material.

I do see glimmers of hope in the slow start that leave me curious enough to keep watching, but not enough to pull me through the rest of the season if this pace keeps up much longer.
February 17, 2021
Suffers from a lot of legacy and little liftoff.
February 17, 2021
Creepy, suspenseful, and well-executed, the cast, crew, and creators on this offshoot of The Silence of the Lambs world have created a worthy world to investigate the origins of Clarice Starling.

It restricts a uniquely charismatic figure by placing her inside of a standard procedural, which is a shame because Clarice Starling isn't your average agent. In this show, on this network, she might as well be.
February 17, 2021
For a show about a brilliant behavioral scientist, Clarice doesn't seem especially interested in building a psychological profile that feels specific.
February 16, 2021
Whatever makes Clarice special is ostensibly what will make "Clarice" special. But with so many other crime shows on television, "genius cop who does things her way, has a dark past and sometimes jogs" is not enough.
February 13, 2021
The most egregious aspect of Clarice isn't that it's a Lecterverse show without its most iconic killer. It's that it doesn't want to focus on hunting down serial killers to begin with.
February 13, 2021
Clarice is about as edgy and graphic as a network series gets, with a steady stream of closeups of mutilated corpses. Unfortunately, the pounding score is an exercise in overkill...certainly more intriguing than another CSI spinoff...

Mostly a bad CBS procedural tied to a lame conspiracy plot.
February 12, 2021
Living up to the ghost of Lecter is hard enough, but the comedown from cinema's most charismatic villain to generic, underwritten criminals is downright depressing.
February 12, 2021
The show tries to be flashier than the run-of-the-mill CBS procedural, but that's essentially what it is.
February 11, 2021
If the series wants to avoid winding up on the slab it's going to have to offer a more satisfying quid pro quo than the fleeting rush it gets from echoing the sounds of "Silence."
February 11, 2021
The silence may be over, as the show's tagline says, but that doesn't mean Clarice knows what it wants to say.
February 11, 2021
It makes business sense to build a series around Clarice, but not much more than that. In the current atmosphere, the show seems an outlier and tasteless.
February 10, 2021
the series is an appropriate sequel to The Silence Of The Lambs... But in order to reach the artistic heights the Hannibal TV series did, Clarice will have to step out from Silence Of The Lambs's shadow.
