Emmy-winning journalist Elizabeth Vargas fronts this documentary series that relies on her extensive background in investigative reporting. The former "20/20" newsmagazine co-anchor takes an unfiltered look at the often unseen stories of people and events in society that have a profound impact. Joined by former members of controversial organizations, Vargas uncovers how these sects prey upon desperate people to alter their belief systems. Each episode examines a group such as NXIVM, an organization that sells "self-help" seminars, through the eyes of past members and gets perspective from believers and leaders who are still active within it.
