Part thriller, part social drama, part murder mystery, this limited series never falls into melodrama or veers into the sentimental as it examines the events leading up to a tragedy and its messy aftermath. The pacing was good and at five episodes, ended with a shocker that actually made sense. I found the characters and situations believable. The acting was uniformly strong. The kids in particular looked and acted like real kids instead of child actors saying adult lines. In the end, the right thing gets done, but in a very -un-Hollywood and wrong way. And nobody gets an absolutely happy ending. They get resolution but with some gritty parts and bruises. This series will resonate and ping you a while after viewing, like stitches still healing.
