I've been praising the episodes for their tight thematic writing, but the season sometimes felt a little without focus when it came to the big picture. After "The Children" it's hard to criticize season four as ten episodes in which not much happened.

In the end, "The Children" is the epitome of season four as a whole: wildly entertaining and dramatic, never lacking in pathos, but sometimes slacking on establishing motivation and making those stories emotionally resonant.
