Watching Stamos toss out punchline after punchline is a genuine delight, because watching anyone do something they're great at is a delight. He's an actor built for exactly this kind of material, and so he makes it sing.

With Daniel Chun (The Office, Hello Ladies and Happy Endings) penning a quick-witted script, Grandfathered subverts every hokey cliche that it nearly crashes into by maintaining a savvy self-awareness.

Still, if there's nothing particularly unconventional about Grandfathered, it carries off its conventions with considerable skill.

Though the pilot hits some of the expected beats - don't muss my pants, baby with dirty hands - it doesn't revel in the comedy of discomfiture common to such stories. It doesn't artificially harden Jimmy's heart just to melt it.

Stamos has a grand time playing the suave, self-absorbed Jimmy.
September 29, 2015
It all makes for a nice enough start to a comedy that already appears to have a pretty happy ending in the bank after just the first episode.

Their show is pleasant now, and if Grandfathered can find ways to make this familiar story seem fresh further down the line, it should be worth sticking with.

Every week I wonder why I'm so into this show, and then the next episode is even cuter and funnier than the last.

There is certainly something enjoyable about Grandfathered. It's far sweeter than the marketing implies, aiming for a blend of dirty jokes and heartwarming moments between family and possible-relationships.

Stamos's star power and the intriguing supporting characters are enough to make Grandfathered a neat addition to your fall TV line-up.

Grandfathered doesn't have too many solid punchlines -- it gets by on charm, which Stamos possesses in abundance.
September 29, 2015
It's a decent premise, and Stamos does his usual amiable pretty boy thing. But I just don't buy that any 52-year-old could be this stupid about how to react around a baby.
September 29, 2015
It's actually a watchable half-hour, but at the end, one is left wondering what Grandfathered could possibly have left to say. All the available jokes have been told, and Jimmy's the changed man that he necessarily had to become.
September 29, 2015
The set up is as old as time (or at least as old as Three Men and a Baby) but the humor has a fresh and current edge to it.
September 29, 2015
While at times it feels like we're watching a cute-off between Stamos, little Edie and baby daddy Peck-nothing wrong with that, mind you-Grandfathered has plenty of bite amid the blubber and baby fat.
September 29, 2015
With an unctuous protagonist on a path to redemption, Grandfathered's most redeeming quality is its supporting cast.

September 29, 2015
A family show for those whose definition of family remains flexible, Grandfathered is Stamos at his handsome-but-vulnerable best.
September 29, 2015
Despite being a sitcom, [Grandfathered ] plays things relatively straight and ends up burning up what little comic fuel it has almost immediately.
September 29, 2015
The pilot, the only episode made available to critics, unfolds with by-the-numbers predictability: Jimmy is good at being a dad for a few days but can't handle the commitment. Then he learns a life lesson. I'm not sure how far one can take this story.
September 29, 2015
Stamos' half-hour goes on to indulge such other TV trends as black lesbian confidantes, "BuzzFeed listicle" Web checks and the single camera's incessant progression of "witty" repartee jumping to quick-cut "gags" jumping to "awww" sentiment.
