Michael D @MichaelX 1d One could be uncharitable and dismiss this Apple TV series as just another "Big Little Lies", troubled upper-class white women, dark secrets, a dead friend at the center, with Kerry Washington added for a dash of diversity. And you wouldn’t be entirely wrong. Elisabeth Moss, Kate Mara, and Washington are generally excellent, but I never quite bought the three leads as lifelong friends; the chemistry feels assembled rather than earned. Corey Stoll makes a memorably menacing villain, though the ending diverges from Araminta Hall’s source novel, apparently to differentiate itself from "Presumed Innocent", which features a similarly unexpected young killer. My hope is that this stays a one-and-done, leaving a reasonably pleasant memory intact. "Mare of Easttown" had the wisdom to quit while ahead. "Bad Sisters" and "Big Little Lies" did not, and both shows paid for that hubris with limp and unnecessary second seasons. Mary knows he’s a murderer which is horrible, BUT SHE ALSO KNEW HE POISONED THEIR DAUGHTER IN ORDER TO NOT GO TO KILL. Could have killed her and she’ll have long time effects. THEN SHE STILL GOES BACK TO HIM. Get the ___ out of here. Literally the worst. Also no one asks the child how she got the pills or why she ever took them. Come on See more Bruce E @Bruce419 May 10 Good acting and good premise. But, like many promising thrillers, falls a bit short in delivering a good ending. And, plot lines are mixed in with a bit of unneeded social commentary which sidetrack the overall plot. Yet, I'd say an overall good show, but writers ought to trust their audience a bit more to make conclusions from the characters they see developing on screen and do not need to explain. I go to a movie every weekend and watch many different series that have gotten better ratings than this and have been terrible. It’s a great series.
