Angelique v Oct 14 I think one episode had 5 gratuitous and graphic hookups. I felt like I was watching soft porn. such a shame. Looks like a good story but I guess I will read the book instead. Provided you can put up with the incessant bonking it's an everyday story of the Spanish aristocracy with some beautiful interiors. The age difference between our hero and the object of his affections is a bit much for this to be an affecting romance, but hey, these crazy Spanish nobles. For me right up there with Godless, Band of Brothers, The Tudors (circa 2007), Grantchester, others for setting authenticity, period costumes, beauty of scenes, casting, story/plot, acting. I thought it was pompous at first then saw the Machiavellian behavior and decided this was more malevolent than I realized. Ah, court life, just like the shenanigans of Trump and his sycophants. The perfect acting of Clara's interpretation kept "realism" in the picture. Will watch again... soon. See more Diane S 10/09/2022 Hilarious - like watching an afternoon soap - something for everyone - gay guys self flagellating because of their shameful sexuality - open air hangings - dead cats - sexual encounters at every turn - burying bodies and digging them up - main character, the cook is agoriphobic though seems to only affect her when the script needs a kick - lost track of the number of murders because there were so many - lunatic Spanish King who gets lost and his equally unhinged son - wrongly accused (not exactly nail-biting question of will they or won't they hang) - evil best friends and equally evil co-workers - illegitimate offspring - slavery - a really good cook - it's like the author or script writer couldn't decide which plot twists to use so used them all.
