Critic Reviews for Law & Order Season 19

All Critics (7) | Top Critics (7)

A few new faces from last season are back, but the formula remains ironclad, right down to the soaring courtroom rhetoric and McCoy's somewhat suspect ethical calculus. This comfort food remains comfortable, indeed.

Tragedy works on "Law & Order," and always has. Could be all those theater-trained actors in the guest roles. Could just be the skyscrapers that squeeze out the sunlight.

As you would expect from a show entering its 19th season, the acting and the pacing are strong and confident. "L&O" has always been smart enough to stick with what works.

Wolf has put snappin' Jack at the center of some of the best episodes of the immortal series' 19th season.

For all of that, the producers' storytelling ingenuity continues to impress and keep the series watchable, irrespective of who's in the opening credits.

One of the great joys of the current "L&O" era is that every tightly constructed plot starts in one place but takes so many twists and turns that you never know where it will end up.

Compulsory watching for television genealogists, I would say, but pretty good watching even for those who don't give a damn about ancestry and pedigree.
