What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lucky 7 has an intriguing premise and a talented ensemble, but it doesn't do enough to establish relatable, empathetic individual characters.

"Lucky 7" raises none of these worrisome questions, or any questions at all save the baffled "Why?" Go to Full Review

Alas, the characters and scenarios are stroked way too broadly. Go to Full Review

It's the kind of show in theory I'd like networks to make more of-dramas with stakes other than crime-so I wanted it to work. But over its first hour, wanting felt too much like trying. Go to Full Review

It's too soon to tell if this will be the kind of compelling drama that leaves us eager to tune in for more each week, but the series gets off to a decent start, laying the groundwork for what could be a suspenseful and dramatic tale. Go to Full Review

The racially-diverse cast playing mostly sympathetic characters will be lucky if it last seven episodes. Go to Full Review

02/05/2015 Unfortunate Forgery (5 September 2013) I don't understand. The Syndicate, the British original, was very good. It had the nervous anticipation, celebration, misgivings and drawbacks of winning the lottery down to a T. The rhythm and flow were previously established brilliantly. The characters were fleshed-out and engaging. So why can't the American re-make be at least equally as good. They managed to cast actors who look conspicuously similar. All they have to do is copy everything else down, like cheating on a test. Recreate it shot for shot if necessary. Because compared to the UK original, Lucky 7 is a huge let down. There was very little stirring or inspiring about it at all. In bilingual Canada there are two media cultures, both funded by tax dollars. A boring and tepid English one that lacks any spark of originality, vision or courage, and a thriving and vibrant French one that lives happily in its own world. Sometimes when the subject of a movie or TV show transcends cultural boundaries, like the story of a great French Canadian hockey player, they will shoot the program in both languages. The actors will perform the scenes in both French and English, so two versions are created simultaneously during the same production, on the same set, tailored for two markets. Now, if all that's stopping Americans from enjoying the superior British original is the English accents, I suggest the British producers use the same Canadian technique. Have the actors read their lines normally with their native inflections, and then again with an American accent for a US audience. There would then be no need to reproduce and re-shoot an inferior version.
