Sluggish story compared with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but Colter and cast are first-rate.

If people take to Luke Cage it will be for the cast.

This may be Marvel and Netflix's best effort to date.

One of Luke Cage's greatest triumphs is its use of music, which resonates more prominently and energetically than in any previous Marvel screen property.

Aesthetically, the palette is dark but warm, lending the story an intimacy, as if you're being invited in to learn more about this vibrant universe.

As a character, Luke Cage may have indestructible skin and a rock-solid frame, but as a show, Luke Cage has those very same characteristics.

It can be a tough act to balance, and seeing him navigate those treacherous waters is what makes Marvel's Luke Cage a great fixture to follow, even more so for its progressive and inclusive nature.

Everything about the show is nothing short of extraordinary.

I honestly can think of no TV show that has given as much room, as much attention, as much love to black women as Luke Cage.

Audience Reviews for Marvel's Luke Cage: Season 1

Luke meets the bad guy, then 13 hours later he fights him for the first time. The bad guys are extremely 2 dimensional
  • Apr 29, 2019
Colter does a great job as an actor, but the story is just uninteresting at times and highly predictable.

'Luke Cage' could coast by on the merits of its delectable jive music and atmosphere alone. I can't, don't, won't dance on demand, but I couldn't stop getting up to get down during the show's groovy musical interludes and show numbers featuring the wonderful sounds of Harlem. Mahershala Ali and Alfre Woodard are great in villain roles, at least for the very strong first chunk that's succeeded by an okay back half, and Simone Missick is too damn cool as NYPD detective Misty Knight. The blaxploitation vibe is also used to great, yet tasteful effect, but it's the sense of community and wholesome moments of action by Mike Colter's Luke that really make the show special. I could watch hours and hours of Luke doing good deeds around his neighborhood and nothing else and be satisfied.

I would rank the 1st half 4 stars but once Cotton Mouth was gone so was everything the show had going for it.
  • Mar 01, 2019
Such strong first half made up for the weaker second half.
  • Feb 24, 2019
Luke comes off as a guy you can root for and an Everyman. Ali's Cottonmouth was great, wish he had more scenes and wished he had faced him at the end instead of his brother.
  • Jan 05, 2019
Mike Colter is incredible. Although most scenes were he would be angry or shocked seemed little odd, acting wise. I'm glad they used a minimum amount of special effects. I loved the story and flashbacks with Pops and Cottonmouth and his family. So much backstory. Frank Faison did very well in his role. The main antagonist, Willis Stryker or otherwise known as Diamondback, was played by Erik LaRay Harvey. He was a great actor but a little creepy, in a bad way. It doesn't pair well with the rest of the show. I also thought it was interesting seeing that this was connected to the MCU and this was set in Harlem. Which is where the events of the Incredible Hulk was set (a lot of destruction). I would recommend. I would age this 15 for drugs, bad language, violence, gore, and sex scenes. Grade: A

Amazing, it opened my eyes to what good TV should be!!

Things are a bit slow at times but the music is sweet. Over all worth the time to watch.

I really liked Luke Cage on Jessica Jones and was excited for this season. However, I found the first episode so excruciatingly boring that I couldn’t even force myself to watch beyond that.
