Critics Consensus

Although this sleek summertime soap oozes melodrama, Melrose Place struggles with one-dimensional storylines and shallow characterizations.

This show is a deliberate spin-off, a potential retirement home where the more successful members of the 90210 cast will be able to bide a while and display their weary sternums when old age hits them at the ripe age of 23. Go to Full Review

Melrose Place bears about as much resemblance to my early 20s as its parent show Beverly Hills 90210 did to my high school years. Of course, a realistic TV show about post-adolescence would be unbearable. Go to Full Review

The show itself is no great shakes, although marginally better than the clunky but beloved [Beverly Hills] 90210. Go to Full Review

90210 is trash, plain and simple, but it's good trash, interesting trash, sexy trash. Melrose Place is decidedly un-sexy trash, which makes for pretty awful viewing. Go to Full Review

Like salted snacks, Melrose Place is addictive. There's a refreshing energy about the series even though it's based on time-proven TV traits give the audience a beautiful cast and plenty of relationship fodder. Go to Full Review

Both 90210 and Melrose Place are well-written, well-executed programs with a slight edge going to Melrose Place in terms of substance and overall quality. Go to Full Review

Mike P @RT12804995 12/28/2023 Trashy Gen X version of Knots Landing has none of the style and panache that that earlier series did; and none of the gravitas; and the characters are mostly cardboard cutouts acting out paper thin stereotypes... This show has always been derided as trash; and it deserves it. See more Read all reviews
