That European register... gives a twist to the most traditional [police series], supported by the beautiful Nordic landscapes. [Full review in Spanish]

Audience Reviews for Bordertown: Season 1

    Slow going but good story

The series starts well, an interesting slow-burn take on ‘Nordic noir' with an emphasis on character and relationships but not without intense police procedural and assorted nasties. Unfortunately credibility is increasingly strained. I like the main character, a DI who lives and thinks outside the box but little things start to annoy. ‘We want to keep a low profile as we may be followed so let's meet in the middle of a big field in our cars, keep the headlights on and stand in the light having our confab'. I could go on but won't. The series falls off the cliff with the third story "The Fury". A long buildup to a huge fight scene involving Lena (main character, female) about to have a cage match with a rabid dog in front of a baying mob to save her daughter being throttled in another cage. Great buildup as we cut back and forth from a convoy of police cars with sirens blaring racing to save the day to cuts of snarling dogs nasty big men baying crowd etc. then a quick cut to Lena punching the bad guy in the face as he lies helpless on the ground and her unharmed daughter looks on. Was there a fight? Did she win? It is like a chunk of the episode has been cut out. A huge cheat. I may bail on the rest.

I was absolutely addicted after the first episode and disappointed when Season 3 and the series was over.

    I loved it...more please...

This show is big, it's bold, packed with drama, tension, and action in all of the right places. All of this is perfectly complimented with beautiful imagery set in the Finnish town of Lappeenranta paired with a brilliant soundtrack. It takes crime busting TV to an entirely different level. Instead of rushing through each case in a 60 minute time slot, it takes it's time and makes sure to sink it's teeth into a very well written script. Every last bit of Bordertown has purpose. You'll have a hard time stepping away from this show given that every episode only gets better than the last.

Been hooked on this ever since it began. Utterly original, with little ( but subtle ) nods to Larsson and Nesbo. Virtanen and Sinisalo will have you in no time. Very gifted actors.
