Live from London, it's the UK version of the groundbreaking sketch series. Celebrity guest hosts join an ensemble of British comedians including Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young to perform sketches, satirical news and video shorts. Each live episode also features a performance from a popular musical guest. From executive producer Lorne Michaels, "SNL" is widely considered a late-night institution, and the UK version continues its incomparable legacy with a distinctly British sensibility.

Thankfully, "Saturday Night Live U.K." largely took the basics of what makes the U.S. version successful — sketch comedy, rotating guest hosts and the unpredictability of live television — and left the Brits to it. That’s where it works. Go to Full Review

It needs to loosen up, which the subsequent Jamie Dornan episode thankfully did. Go to Full Review

At best it shows what it’s learnt from a half-century of its New York cousin; at worst it seems like tepid cosplay. Go to Full Review

In terms of quality, SNL UK is really hitting its stride and seems to have found the ideal balance between a very American format and a very British comic sensibility. Go to Full Review

The first show was by no means a flawless comic masterpiece. Nonetheless, it was, at the very least, perfectly respectable. Go to Full Review

With a tried-and-true formula, SNL UK‘s cast most likely will find their voices and establish themselves as a separate entity, albeit with the same plusses and minuses that the American show has. Go to Full Review

S H @sidesix May 17 I think like a lot of reviewers and viewers, I went into SNL UK with mixed concerns and a bit of trepidation. It could be a huge flop. I'm a fan of SNL in general and the reality is, even with SNL you get good weeks and bad weeks; you get highlight sketches and complete duds. And you're going to have the same here with SNL UK. I've really enjoyed the series. I've loved getting to know a new batch of comedians. I feel like by the end of the series they were starting to notice their strengths and quirks. I really enjoyed quite a lot of the sketches. I think the cold opens have a lot of potential and are funny, but they seem to often end on a bit of a dud and they could do a little work at bringing the opening sketch to a high crescendo. But overall, it's a great cast, loads of potential, I found it funny and I've enjoyed watching it every week. I'm really excited for the next series and I'm glad that it's only a few months away. See more Harry M @Hnm990 May 12 I went into SNL UK expecting it to struggle and honestly thought it might be a huge flop and struggle to adapt to a UK audience, but it’s thoroughly proved me wrong. The early episodes felt a bit shaky and unsure of themselves, like it was still figuring out what it wanted to be. That said, there’s been a clear shift over the more recent episodes. The writing feels tighter, the timing is improving, and the cast seem a lot more comfortable in their roles. It’s starting to hit its stride and land sketches with a growing sense of confidence rather than hesitation. It’s developed enough momentum now that it absolutely justifies a second season, and it’ll be interesting to see how far it can go from here. See more No M @RT92255926 Apr 29 Whilst stilted in places, SNL UK is pushing the boundaries of British comedy in a delightful and fresh way. Like its US counterpart, not every sketch will land but when it does - it soars. Worth a watch, worth investing in and is a delight to tune in week after week. The true highlights lie in the show's Weekend Update section where two extremely strong hosts have grown in confidence week in and week out. Meanwhile, cast members like George Fouracres proves to be a comedic gem and can have you rolling on the floor laughing in just 45 seconds. The musical guests have been good and both the live and prerecorded sketches have a lot of humour in them. The show is able to please audiences with highbrow and lowbrow humour alike. Is it perfect? No. Is the original perfect? No. However, considering how formulaic a lot of comedy is - it's refreshing for SNL UK to push the boundaries as it is. Yes, it relies on an original format but still stands out against normal UK comedy. See more Mo W @Mowgli1985 Apr 27 Episode 5 was so far my favorite.
