It's exactly this insistence on upending traditional sweetcom stereotypes that makes Schitt's Creek so irresistible and unputdownable.

Sure, it's tough for fans to see the show end on its own terms, but this was the way Schitt's Creek was always meant to end... This moment of celebration and fan service and triumph works because it was earned.

With incredibly good actors and some brilliant writing, the Rose family's journey ends up being a humorous, warm and witty ride.

The series finale delivers what it says on the tin: a heartfelt ceremony, and an even more heartstring-tugging goodbye.

Now is the time to be grateful for a show that never aspired to be a joke-dense fusillade of gags like 30 Rock or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; that let itself be driven as much by the relationships among its characters as by the conflicts between them.

Schitt's Creek ends with an episode (and a final season) that truly highlights one of its greatest strengths of a show: its ability to make its characters grow without fundamentally changing them.

That's the real beauty of this show. You may feel like you've seen a joke before but nothing ever gets old.

It never lost sight of who the Roses were - they're snarky and fabulous and live to make fun of each other.

David holds for me the hope that we will continue to see nuanced, imperfect depictions of people outside the "norm" in TV series.

If they had to leave us - and this feels like a particularly painful time to say goodbye - at least the Rose family left us well.

"Schitt's Creek" ends with the vivacious spirit that has made it an instant favorite with viewers. There are great jokes mingled with tearful goodbyes.

There are finales of shows that stay with us and give a beautiful sendoff to their characters, and I'm proud to say that Schitt's Creek is among the most amazing.

After last night's series finale and behind-the-scenes documentary on CBC, it is safe to say that viewers satisfyingly lived, laughed and loved with their favourite TV family one last time.

It was all brilliantly, beautifully done even if it offered no surprises. And it managed this because of the work of its two most important creative assets: Dan Levy's writing and Catherine O'Hara's genius-level comedic abilities.

It's exactly the kind of optimistic, feel-good storytelling the world needs more of right now, which is why it's such a bittersweet -- but ultimately satisfying -- goodbye.

The show has been noted widely for its particular mix of gooey warmth and sardonic wit, but the uncertainty of these times might make it an ideal rewatch option.

Schitt's Creek was not your typical comedy, but it featured excellent acting, a great script, and jokes that landed every single time.

This little show that could (and did) did not start out to be the warm embrace everybody needed. Back some six years ago, Dan Levy just wanted to spin a comedy around the concept of a rich American family losing their money. Privilege meets pauper.
