While more faithful to the book, the mid-90s TV movie-of-the-week production value strips down the horror and human elements. Go to Full Review

Zack S @ZackBauer Feb 18 Vastly superior to that overrated Kubrick slop. See more Hoi Y @HoiYo Dec 14 This film most accurately follows the book by alleged plagiarist Stephen King, however, Stanley Kubrick's version is a work of genius. While we need more films that showcase the primal hatred that many men have toward women and their wives in general, it is a dull and lackluster, forgettable, made-for-TV flop. See more Candace W @RT29674225 Nov 22 Best version of The shining. Even though Kubrick's was splashy and okay it wasn't like the novel. This version was closely related to the novel you actually got to figure out the history on The Ghosts and the hotel and the human element See more Scott B @chefscottpblackerby Oct 21 It sticks to the book much better. However, the book isn't that great. Kubrick took a mediocre book and made a cinematic masterpiece. Skip this. See more joshua w @RT59421113 Oct 11 Is it a cinematic classic? No. Does it have terrible actors? Mostly but Steven Weber does a great Jack Torrence. It is however a super good script that stays true to the book. If you’re a fan of Stephen King it’s worth the watch. See more Eric O. @Reviews_by_Bigfoot Aug 17 If you enjoyed reading the Shinning this is much more aligned with the original story than the Stanley Kubrick film; both are great-but I actually prefer this tv series version.
