Here we have all the pieces of a great series: The dialogues are well written, the timing is correct and the performances are outstanding. But it lacks the astringency and complexity of the French original and the most interesting thing about it - famous people playing themselves and not always in a self-flattering way - is not original. The casting is wonderful, and the guest stars work soooo well playing themselves. The reserved, pent-up, unsaid elements to each character build the tension, and often enhance and intensify the comedy… as well as the emotion. Really enjoyed this! Why they tried to copy the original so exactly is so risky and so awkward goodness knows why they did it..🤪. However the concept has (for me) huge appeal as its lovely to see a part of London I know so well and some of the actors I am very fond of no matter what they do so will keep watching. We'll see...
