What to Know

Critics Consensus

Thank You, Goodnight is stretched too thin to hit as hard as a Bon Jovi track, but the subject's vulnerability provides this docuseries with more to live on than just a prayer.

Thank You, Goodnight is undeniably brave. Jon didn’t need to open himself up this much. But rather like a protracted heavy metal guitar solo, the documentary just goes on for a bit too long. Go to Full Review

A four-part, five-hour documentary devoted to one of the more anodyne groups of classic rock, Hulu’s Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story is a competently made yet protracted survey of 40 years of big ballads and bigger hair. Go to Full Review

Though Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story won't surprise longtime fans, it also doesn't have much of the sex and drugs that are often go along with rock 'n' roll stories, making it OK family viewing. Go to Full Review

Once you get past those pivotal milestones, the going gets repetitive, and if they’d chopped an hour out of this I doubt anyone would have noticed. Go to Full Review

Nosilla 1 @AllisonMF 05/26/2025 I felt like it was a LOT longer than it needed to be to tell the story of the band. I was never a huge Bon Jovi fan (crazy for a straight female raised in the 80’s!) , but I do love a good documentary, and this was not it. I found myself getting bored, and I also found myself developing an extreme hatred towards Richie Sambora. He wasn’t even a founding member, and I think he was jealous the band wasn’t called Sambora. I found him to be a very unsympathetic character and a whiny ass. I have worked through near fatal conditions to the point I could barely walk for slightly above minimum wage, and he’s gonna act like he does? Just shut up and do your job which you are super overpaid for. I actually found a lot of this documentary to be whiny. You have to respect the hustle of the Jon Bon Jovi non profit restaurants, which is an awesome way to use your fame actually. But I still found the documentary too long and too whiny. A true fan will probably like it. Me? Not so much. See more April T @RT65023591 05/26/2024 I grew up listening to Bon Jovi, buying their albums, putting posters of the band and of Jon on my walls, buying the VHS tapes with the videos on them. I enjoy their earlier stuff and in all honestly have no interest in listening to the types of songs they put on now. Watching Thank You, Goodnight really didn't delve into anything outside of what fans already know about the band from years past. I was a bit surprised to see Jon come across in several of the interviews having such an inflated ego and as Doc McGhee described him at one point as "pompous." Richie did apologize for the way he handled his exit from the band and he had his own valid reasons for wanting out. Some of those later songs clearly come across as digs. Watching this has really changed my view of Jon, not as an artist but how he conducts himself as an individual. See more Read all reviews
