It's probably the best cute meet in rom com history - except rom coms are movies.

End has the edge in writing, acting -- especially by Ms. Barden -- and ambition.

A bleak as it is beautiful.

At once a joyful watch and a morally destabilizing one...The End of the F***ing World evolves into something much rarer, a convincing teen-age romance.

A second season is promised, and based on how this one ends I have no idea how they're going to pull that off. But I'll be there.

TEOTFW offers everything you want out of a good teen flick: Two kids against the world, a ride-or-die road trip, a sing-along-worthy soundtrack, actual complex teen characters - all dealt with in a mature way.

The characters' existential crises are faced with deadpan humor, as well as the softness that accompanies young love.

The likeability factor of TEOTFW, as far as I'm concerned, is nigh zero on paper, but it's astronomical onscreen. I'm genuinely excited to see where it goes.

It's not until the end that Entwistle's master plan truly comes to light, as he makes the case for using various emotional storytelling devices to get across the same message: relationships are scary.

It's a jet-black premise, handled with a light touch.
January 11, 2018
Dialogue, that's not as hilarious as it thinks it is, dilute what could have been a moving exploration on how difficult it can be for some teenagers to escape the darker edges of a painful upbringing.

James and Alyssa could easily come across as extremely irritating and to some, the mannered performances might be off-putting, but Lawther and Barden are so engaging that their dysfunctional love story carries a surprising amount of emotional weight.

They pack a lot of emotion, humor, and humanity into a relatively short running time, and it's time well-spent in a world that isn't ending any time soon.

This show is great.

...if you give this quirky and jaded gem a chance, it will deliver a sweet and honest story about young love that is deeply relatable to anyone who has has been an angst-ridden teenager.

Dark dramedy raises talking points for mature teens.

What this one season accomplishes is something truly impressive: an ironic romance that blossoms into a real one without ever feeling like a betrayal of its authentic, misanthropic self.

The End of the F***ing World is a wonderfully executed dark comedy featuring dynamic performances from Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden. It's great to see Netflix importing more terrific series from across the pond.

Never mind the bluntness of the title, just cozy up to this series - it is simultaneously sinister, funny, wise and fabulous.

No matter how you take the ending, each interpretation carries significance, which is exactly what the creator intended.
