The entire premise - if you have enough progressive political awareness to get the jokes and can laugh at yourself - is riotously funny.

None of this is likely to have anywhere near the staying power of King of the Hill, which hung in there for 14 seasons on Fox. But as a summertime diversion, The Goode Family turns out to be perhaps just good enough.

[A] heavy-handed satire of political correctness that makes Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head look like a paragon of subtlety.

On the other hand, for all of its mocking, "The Goode Family'' still treats its main characters kindly.

The company finally has produced a decent show. Let's see how long it lasts.

Instead of incorporating actual humor into the show, [Mike] Judge presents an irritatingly obnoxious, overly liberal family and expects that we'll simply laugh at the absurdity. Instead, it's mostly just irritating.

However, at the end of the day, a sitcom has to be funny, and more often than not, The Goode Family was not.

What's worse, though, is how too many current pop culture references are scattered throughout the script, turning what could have been another gentle lampoon of wacky characters into something with a two-week shelf life.

"The Goode Family" is set up as so haplessly PC that all the jokes begin to sound the same, no matter if some are periodically more funny than others. It's too bad, really, because it all looks so ripe on paper.

I think "The Goode Family" finds the Goodes... to be just as well-meaning as Hank, but they're so intense (if often confused) in their beliefs that it becomes too easy to laugh at all of them - and more difficult to laugh with them.

Unnecessary, and close to unwatchable.

The laughs are like the family itself, just a bit too self-conscious, over-thought and over-wrought.

[It] pulls just enough punches so tonight's premiere episode feels like satire lite.

"Goode" really does feel too much like the flip side of "King of the Hill." The humor comes from the opposite point of view but it's still a too-similar-to-stand-on-its-own comedy.

As the eco-friendly movement and political shifts in power give rise to a new form of conformity, there's ample material to be mined here, and Goode Family does well setting up clever dialogue and scenarios.

"Goode" is never savage. There's even some wisdom here. The characters? Green but never mean and all likable.

Maybe someday there will be a good TV comedy that lampoons political correctness. But "The Goode Family" is not that show. It's just bad.

[A] smart, wryly funny animated comedy that's going to need a strong word-of-mouth campaign to flourish.

"The Goode Family," which is nicely acted and well animated, works best when the cultural potshots give way to the more basic human needs of its characters.

The biggest structural problem, though, is that The Goode Family moves very, very slowly. As in: literally slowly. You will notice... the way The Goode Family contains long, unnecessary pauses, as if there genuinely just wasn't enough script.
