After years of playing second fiddle to Agents Mulder and Scully on "X-Files," the trio of computer-hacking conspiracy geeks popularly known as the Lone Gunmen are tackling corporate and government intrigue on their own. The threesome play like a misguided Mission Impossible team, embarking on a series of adventures that simultaneously highlight their genius and ineptitude.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Lone Gunman may have a unique premise, but the sci-fi series mix of slapstick comedy and moody drama is decidedly flat.

The Lone Gunmen is mostly a comedy with the title characters carrying on like stooges as they try to solve mysteries or crimes. None of it works, and X-Files fans may find it insulting. Go to Full Review
Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune 01/07/2020
In each of the first two episodes, the series seems to suddenly remember the essentially comic origins of these characters and tries to shoehorn in, with an incredible lack of grace, some over-the-top pratfall or another. Go to Full Review
Belinda Acosta Austin Chronicle 01/07/2020
Lone Gunmen features a palette of unlikely leading characters that are refreshingly doofy and unconventionally appealing. That, plus I like the gadgets. Go to Full Review
Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel 11/14/2019
It's a dicey venture to attempt to turn characters most effective in small doses into leading men, but Carter has managed to do it fairly well with this spinoff. Go to Full Review
Mike Drucker IGN Movies 11/14/2019
The humor in The Lone Gunmen was simply too light to really catch audiences who wanted something a bit meaner and darker. Go to Full Review
