Say what you will about the interest levels for Game of Thrones spin-offs featuring the Targaryens’ great-great-great-grandparents, but this is certainly overkill. No one asked for a Taylor Sheridan–style tale of Merlin’s family tree? Go to Full Review

roland S @RolandSkva 4d In an age where Fantasy shows are either 21st century minded people in cosplay, overly grim and dark torture dramas, or a mix in between, this show is a true breathe of fresh air. The Pendragon Cycle feels like Fantasy the way it's crafted in most of its' classic literature. Epic. Adventurous. Legendary. Dramatic and Heroic. Maybe most of us have become too cynical to enjoy true Magic, but for you oldschool fantasy lovers brethren, I highly recommend this one. See more David T @RT36144053 6d Shockingly well done, between characters, story, writing, and set/costume design; it reignited my interest in Arthurian literature. The action was intense and visceral. My one critique is that scenes that needed to be on a much bigger scale (i.e. major battles) did not have as many people as it should have. I hope they make a second season. See more Adam J @RT34665581 Apr 5 The story slowly reveals itself, never dwelling long on exposition but rather hinting at secrets and past events that become clear by the end. Its deliberate pace presents a story that is well worth seeing, with each episode building on the last. Highly recommend, it is incredible what they’ve been able to produce on such a lean budget, makes other fantasy outings (particularly those profoundly disappointing adaptations from Amazon and Netflix) seem wasteful and amateurish by comparison. Truly hope we get a second season, that final vision has both my wife and myself eager to see what comes next. See more Brandon C @officialbrandoncollins Apr 2 The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin (2026) is a surprise worth watching. Based on the Christian Fantasy Book Series "The Pendragon Cycle" by Stephen R. Lawhead Episodes 1-2 are Book One & Episodes 3-7 are Book Two. We follow Merlin who is known in most literature as a wizard. However here, he's a Mage, Bard, Seer and Prophet who has powers bestowed unto him by Jesu, who's technically Jesus within this universe. Merlin is a depressed man who has an identity crisis and battles with his inner demons. His goal is to unite everyone under one name in Britain. This show is nowhere near perfect. In fact, I was bored a lot of the time. It focuses more on dialogue than anything else, and that grew quite tiresome for me as a viewer. But when it focused on the action, it did very well. I was pleasantly surprised that the battle sequences were so well done. There were also scenes that were "overly acted" that made me laugh. But all in all, the acting was good. Yes, there are definitely some big pacing issues early on, and the story jumps around so much that it's hard to stay on track if you haven't read the books, so that's why I can't give it 5 stars. But the show really is incredible in some moments, and consistently very good. I'm seeing a lot of critiques online about low production values and wooden acting. Have these people watched Rings of Power? That show had almost a billion dollars pumped into it, and yet Pendragon Cycle's visual and special effects are on par, if not better in some instances. And if you're going to complain about wooden acting, I will direct you to some of the recent Marvel shows. Not a masterpiece by any means, but if you're looking for an entertaining show with some great acting, incredible music, and some truly amazing moments, you can do much worse than this one! See more Ed C @BlueCollarCritic Mar 31 There's a VERY good reason you see , as of today March 30 2026, only 1 critics review and it's b/c Hollywood and those who encircle it can NOT stand seeing independent media, especially one affiliated with Christianity, not only by-pass Hollywood's gate keeping mechanisms but on top of that put Hollywood to shame with the shows quality productions and great story telling. I was surprised by how close a line some parts walk with the close to semi-nude shots but its still innocent compared to what Hollywood typically puts out. The lead actor, Tom Sharp, brings the same kind of weigh to his role as Merlin that I remember Jim Caviezel bringing to Jesus in The Passion Of The Christ. I must also admit that the writing is better than I was expecting. It's not up there with GAME OF THRONES but its certainly better than a lot of what we get today from the big studios. A 3 month subscription is easily worth the price to se this series. See more Read all reviews
