Not great, but compared to the low budget Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' ~$6m per episode or Game of Thrones' $15m+ per episode, it didn't look terrible. Cinematography was also quite decent. But everything else about "Merlin" was lackluster. I wanted to like it, but it was just not a well-written, well-paced, or well-acted series. Felt like a 90's era TV show with slightly better visuals. See more Ben K @RT82863256 1d I thought it was very well done, especially for a smaller relative budget to something like Game of Thrones, but costume design, the physical sets, and the storytelling was really well done. This series does an incredible job of getting the point across and making you feel immersed into a universe there isn't much time to build. I would like this to be continued in some form be it a movie or season 2. There were some points where CGI or demonstrating the scale of battles could be better, but I think they did the best they could with the money they had, and I have no doubt this would have been even better with a larger budget. See more Nathan W @RT95156159 6d One of the best in the fantasy genre in too many years. I loved the characters and their portrayal. They captured the spirit of the book quite well. The acting was top-notch. The scenery was gorgeous. Probably one of the best opening monologues of all time. Once Merlin entered the scene in episode 3, it started getting really good. The final episode was done amazingly well. I loved how Merlin was portrayed, and his climactic confrontation with Morgian was top-notch. The bad: Some laughable CGI in the first couple of episodes. Some of the battles were obviously smaller in scale due to budget constraints. However, they still got the idea across. The first two episodes also went way too quickly, making it easy to get lost if you haven't read the books. Hoping enough people watch and love it for a season 2.
