What to Know

Critics Consensus

As made evident in Interview with the Vampire, Sam Reid perfectly embodies this luridly divine undead Frenchman, but The Vampire Lestat makes him a snarling, campy, and utterly magnetic star who unapologetically commands your attention.

A rich continuation of the Anne Rice universe, The Vampire Lestat emerges as a spellbinding entry pulsating with exquisite chaos and gothic despair.

Whether you’re a reader or not, The Vampire Lestat is a master class in world building and character expansion, with strong acting continuing to anchor the fantasy of it all. Go to Full Review

Beyond all this is his afterlife’s driving existential question. “Why do I actively, manically pursue failure?” he asks. The show leaves this open, which is fine by me. I’d happily tag along for more delirious seasons as he searches for answers. Go to Full Review

It’s rare to find television bold enough to commit as fully as “The Vampire Lestat” does, and rarer still to see a performer as magnetic and multifaceted as Reid to carry it through. Go to Full Review

Lestat's season offered a beautifully broken look into the pains of immortality and learning to love when any affection you'd ever received was conditional, fleeting, or both. Go to Full Review

Being focused on Lestat’s narration and point of view instead of Louis’, the entire series takes on a buzzing faster pace with a contemporary rock edge that suits the material. Go to Full Review

Mitch H @RT98648127 1h A phenomenal season of television that's outclassing nearly everything airing right now as long you aren't a media illiterate white larper who only sees media through a racial lens and their own shipping headcanons See more Steph S @Stephybeth 4h A soulless, incoherent and insulting adaption that mocks the audience for liking Seasons 1 and 2, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and the characters she wrote. The writers ignored the most important themes and storylines of the book, flattened complex characters, and frankensteined numerous elements from multiple books into one rushed season but failed to do any of it justice. The dialogue is full of vapid tiktok-brained word vomit, there's no magic in the production sets, the score adds nothing to the storytelling, the editing is a colossal mess, and an incredibly talented cast is wasted on this shallow mutilation of prestigious fiction. The obsession with shock value at the expense of good storytelling is beyond comprehension. See more Kathryn B @RT569053218 4h The season is fantastic and really comes together by the end. It doesn't lose the core of what makes the show great. See more Mary Ellen C @RT84600509 5h Sam Reid and the entire cast knock it out of the ball park this season. Every episode brings surprises and keeps you guessing. Sam Reid gives Lestat so many layers, he was simply breathtaking. See more melody J @RT10210357 6h This show is awful; racist and misogynistic tropes throughout. They have no black directors or writers. On top of which, it only has about 10% of Anne’s story. They changed too many aspects of the story. If you’re a book reader, you will be left angry by this "adaptation." I use that word, "adaptation" loosely because the writers come off as 16 year old frustrated teens that no one takes seriously. The music is awful and nothing like the list of artists that Jones had the gall to name off. Why didn’t they hire an established song writer of the type of music they were after? Rolin Jones has destroyed this "universe." Mark Johnson oversaw that destructive pile of garbage known as "The Talamasca." Why AMC hired these two is a mystery. How the two have kept their jobs is a mystery. It boils down to the taste of modern audiences; immature, sex, blood, and gore. They’re not interested in a good story. They’re not interested in keeping our best authors in good regards. See more Viktoria M @vikmartel 6h If I could rate this bellow zero I would. As a huge book fan I can honestly say this is the worst adaption and butchering of anything I've ever seen in my life! It's not even an adaptation as it has little to do with the actual book. Seasons 1/ 2 were beautiful and despite many changes respectful and intelligent, and there was still the overarching theme and feeling you are watching adaptation of IWTV book. This seasons is absolute mess and travesty. Disgusting fever dream by Rolin Jones that doesn't even belong on AO3, because AO3 fans writing fiction are better and actually do it with love and respect. This season is mostly invented modern day plotline and what little they referenced the books in is completely distorted. every important narrative, relationship and characters is ruined and unrecognizable to the book. Absolute trash and disrespect! Hope someone takes sways TVC rights from them! Props to amazing cast tho. They deserve better! See more Read all reviews
