Critic Reviews for Top Gear Season 27

Top Gear felt freewheeling and unpredictable again. I found a grin spreading across my face and even laughed aloud. Flintoff and McGuinness promise to make this floundering franchise the best it's been since the Clarkson era.

For now, it's the beginning of a new era of Top Gear, one that will hopefully last long enough for the series to feel as distinct and entertaining as it has in the past.

This just feels like a poor imitation. It's time for the BBC to ditch it, truly.

This format died when Chris Evans took over. Now it's zombified. Surely the BBC execs hurling money at it, with the trio enjoying a lengthy junket to Ethiopia, must see that this is undead TV.

Flintoff and McGuinness are by no means Formula One-grade banterers - but they're revving up nicely. And Top Gear may not be for the scrap heap just yet.

Watching Top Gear was always a bit like having to sit through someone else's holiday home movies.

It was better than expected because you could believe this trio were real mates, even though you knew it was a TV Tinder date. Thus far I rather "likey", but since I am definitely not the traditional, hardcore audience, that might not bode well.

It shouldn't work. But amazingly... it does. Chris Harris (the only full-on car expert), Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness gel as a trio in a way that might just restore the sense of lads-tooling-about that made the series a hit to begin with.

Based on this first episode though, the BBC programme looks to be back on track with a winning formula, combining the bits viewers love with some genuine charm.

Top Gear's great success lay in its appeal to viewers who didn't care about cars. It was crowdpleasing fare; it went nowhere, fast. On this showing, it's not going anywhere soon.

Much better than the few previous series. These three have great potential, and I can't wait to see what they do next. But, please stop bullying Chris Harris so much lol.

While Chris Harris is good, even improving since series 26, Rory is ok in a reduced role, and there's never enough Sabine, Freddie and Paddy just don't work for me at all. Between the current producers misinterpreting the old pranking as the new bullying and the brutally thick accent that has to be an absolute pain in the arse for most outside of thew UK, so far the new personalities and this season are a fail. Just not a fan of frat boy bullying and needing subtitles for Top Gear. Season 26 finally felt like they were finally getting back to the right feel for the show, then the jumped the shark with season 27. So sad.

We have recaptured that old may hammond and clams on cemistry

I can't look past the bullying of Chris Harris by the other two useless frat boys. Honestly, it's just juvenile. I think this show has jumped the shark.

I used to look forward to watching top gear... up until series 22 the chemistry was that of best friends having fun at the pub. With season 27 they have reached a low point: locker room banter. One abrasive bully (can anyone outside the UK understand what he's saying half the time?), one gentle giant that just goes along with the bully, and Chris Harris: The only person worth watching. Tune in to season 28 if you want to see him get bullied some more. I don't think I will.

fratboys, yobbers, and bullies are apparently the target audience. Everyone else do not waste with time with this Season (27)
