Elizabeth Thatcher is a young teacher accustomed to high society, so she experiences culture shock when she gets her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley. Life in the small mining town is filled with challenges. A recent explosion has killed more than a dozen of the town's miners, compelling the widows of those men to work in the mines to earn money. Constable Jack Thornton, also a newcomer, is not as welcoming, because he believes Thatcher's wealthy father doomed his career by assigning him to Coal Valley so he could protect Elizabeth. Over time, though, Elizabeth and Jack become closer and begin a relationship. Janette Oke's books about the Canadian West inspired the series.

Season 11 continues the downward spiral poor writing Abounds. Yes, watch seasons, one through nine, but don’t bother with season 10 or 11. The new show runner has totally destroyed this show Lindsey Sturman lives up to her reputation of being the worst runner in the field. See more Jules S @RT94371266 05/31/2024 A wonderful show with genuine care & at a relaxing pace of life it leaves me feeling at peace, although I admit as much as the main character holds the show well in her hand I get irritated by her small whimsical smile that the director perhaps insists on - or is it her own take on portraying romance in the shows vein? The camera goes in at the same angle after evening under the starts scenes & I try not to feel a bit sick because I do love the show! I adore Pascale's acting as Rosemary & her envelopment of the dramatic role. It is such a wonderful thing to have no F words & vile cursing in site & touches of sweetness that the world has apparently lost so much of.
