Acclaimed television producer Jonathan Pontell is a four-time Emmy Award winner. A native of New York City, he attended the School of Visual Arts, where he studied film and television. In 1973, he served as an assistant editor on the horror film classic "The Exorcist." He went on to edit documentaries for CBS News and public television. In 1981, Pontell moved to Los Angeles, where he shifted into narrative television, cutting "Hill Street Blues." He went on to edit such popular programs as "Northern Exposure," "Beverly Hills, 90210," and "L.A. Law." On "L.A. Law" Pontell expanded into producer duties and worked with David E. Kelley for the first time. The pair found they worked well together and would re-team on a number of projects including: "Picket Fences," "Boston Public," "The Practice," and "Ally McBeal," which marked the end of his editing career. Pontell began directing on Kelley's shows. In 2005, he became a producer on "Bones," but left the show the following year to executive produce the TV dramedy "What about Brian," which proved to be short-lived. In 2007, he joined Kelley on the sitcom "The Wedding Bells," and in 2010 on the made-for-TV movie "Legally Mad." All of Pontell's awards have come from his work with Kelley. Pontell has won an Emmy for his work on "Ally McBeal," "The Practice," and "Picket Fences."
