Movie Info

Like the Anna Sewell novel that inspired it, this film adaptation is told from the perspective of a majestic stallion named Black Beauty (Alan Cumming). As a colt, Black Beauty has a relaxed life in the English countryside, owned by the kindly farmer Grey (Sean Bean). However, later in life, he is forced to work as a taxi horse in London. As an aged horse, Black Beauty finds himself in the care of loving owners again, but only after a series of thrilling hardships and triumphs.

Much like the animated film Watership Down, this movie has a lot of trouble deciding a targeted audience. It's far too dark for children yet has a kiddie plot. Both films are based on novels, but it's one thing to read about more mature things and quite another to see it.

Beautiful movie, beautiful music, beautiful scenes, beautiful horses! This movie let us people see the life of a horse through his eyes. Now you can better understand what's like to be a horse, because this horse can 'talk' and has emotions like we have. But that doesn't make it less sad. Unfortunately, even today, lots of horses have a life like Black Beauty. Even much worse...
