Movie Info

Though he considers himself a bust, playwright and screenwriter Paul (David Paymer) is drawing lots of attention from the creative community. Theatrical producer Carla (Rosalind Chao) wants to mount a production of one of Paul's scripts, and documentarian Sam's (Judge Reinhold) latest project will focus on Paul's career. Because his last play bombed, Paul is gun-shy about returning to the theater. He'd rather devote his time to romancing Carla, but that just might not be in the cards.

Critic Reviews for Enemies of Laughter

All Critics (7) | Top Critics (1) | Fresh (4) | Rotten (3)

  • An all too apt title for a would-be comedy in which everyone in it and everything about it seems willfully designed to be unfunny.

  • If Paymer and Chao had any chemistry together we might be more interested in their budding romance

    June 26, 2004 | Rating: 2.5/5
  • Pretty ballsy of the filmmakers to go with the title "Enemies of Laughter," seeing that it's a comedy.

  • A small, delightful indie flick with a singular voice and spry wit. Rarely is a title so willfully far from accurate.

  • This slow, stilted comedy just sits there and whines... kind of like its lead.
