Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Critics Consensus

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga contains inspired ingredients and laugh-out-loud moments, but they're outnumbered by the flat stretches in this overlong comedy.

  • Will Ferrell is his goofy, outsized self but Rachel McAdams brings a charming sweetness to this delightfully silly comedy.

  • [A] high-concept, low-brow romantic comedy that overstays its welcome by at least a half-hour and can't decide whether it wants to buy into or satirize the incomprehensibly popular European singing contest.

  • Eurovision falls well short of a laugh a minute, but it has some uproarious moments that something like Holmes & Watson lacked.

  • As a plausible work of art, it deserves nul points, but it's still film of the week, no contest.

Audience Reviews for Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler should be given credit for understanding that, for the most part, the American viewing public consumes fare like McDonalds on a regular basis and loves it, as fast as they forget they ate it, and so who's to say their consumption of film isn't the same, or could be? And then, so what if a piece is half-assed? Half-baked? Doesn't matter. "They'll forget they watched it anyway." Consider for your approval Eurovision, which is half-assed done to perfection. I mean, they really spent time and effort on doing half-assed. It's well done half-baked. What? Well, the singing medley in the middle is good, but mostly the film plays like a advertisement for Icelandic tourism.
