There's no sense in burying the lede: Flatliners is terrible. Instead of attempting a philosophical exploration of death and life, Flatliners settles for being a poor, generic thriller without any real thrills.

Schumacher's Flatliners is prime material for a remake, being a slick idea that wasn't handled very well in the first place; but alas, this version is a disposable, nonsensical, and instantly forgettable mess that makes the original seem almost masterful.

While the concept in itself is interesting, it goes from Grey's Anatomy to bad horror movie without really diving into the potentially interesting depths of the afterlife and the idea of 'playing' with death. It leaves the viewer with no true meaning or message, and reinforces Christian ideas of repentance, sin, 'light' and so on, but again without really developing it at all. Absolutely not recommended.

The 2017 Flatliners remake takes the same high-concept hook – med students stopping their hearts to glimpse the afterlife – and runs it through the filter of glossy teen horror. The result is watchable but aggressively familiar. The young cast (with Ellen Page and Diego Luna doing what they can) has some chemistry, and the film’s hospital-at-night aesthetic delivers a few decent jump scares. But once the initial experiment is set up, the story slides into generic territory: stock character types, predictable hauntings and a surprisingly soft turn toward redemption and "fix your past mistakes" messaging. It never digs as deep into guilt or atmosphere as the 1990 original, nor does it find a new angle to justify its existence. As a disposable late-night supernatural thriller it’s fine, but it’s unlikely to stay with you once the credits roll.

One minute you're watching a medical paranormal movie and the next there's a little girl on a balcony(that got "intruduced" in a whole 2 minutes). The lead is dead...everyone except ray almost dies i took away that Netflix descriptions are trickery. Watched with my friend and she says the emoji movie is more consistent in storyline (I agree).
