Critics Consensus

Unselfconsciously juvenile and overwhelmingly quirky, Gentlemen Broncos offers a lot of potty humor but isn't terribly funny.

Classic underdog vs smug establishment stuff, you might think. But it's all played out in puke-slathered anti-comedy sketches better suited to no-budget YouTube videos than a multimillion-dollar film. Go to Full Review

This deliberately amateurish, self-indulgent effort manages to be odd while rarely remembering to be funny. Go to Full Review

Kara P. @ihave3dollars Jan 17 Watching this movie hits different after 15 years later. And imo doesn’t get enough credit for the metaphor it has in modern writing (whether it be music, books, movies) and not to mention the perfect ‘one liners’. This movie had only gotten better since my first view in 2010. See more Christian P @XtraChrispy Jan 6 Jared and Jerusha Hess have a knack for writing and filming quirkly characters and scenarios. This is no exception. It is full of uncomfortable moments that are humorous because you can relate to the people suffering through them. It also humanizes and parodies a certain marginalized group (rural homeschoolers), showing both their oddity but, interestingly enough, also their naive good-heartedness. Hollywood and the coastal elites do not comprehend sincerity. If a film isn´t ironic and searingly political (in their preferred direction), they will disapprove of it. This film´s characters are quite sincere, with the exception of the overbearing Sci-Fi author, who is lampooned ferociously. **Trigger Warning!** The protagonist calls the rewritten version of his character a ¨tr@nny,¨ which likely added to the disdain professional reviewers have for this film. However, that is an authentic way for this type of a character to refer to Brutus/Bronco as he was rewritten. I was blown away I miss these kind of movies it doesn’t take itself too seriously the humor is on point for the time, I felt all the nostalgia for the earlier 2000s. What a time to be alive with a hidden Gem like this!!! Wish there were more movies like this…. SHOW EVERYONE THIS MOVIE See more Frankie F. @Dr-Frank-N-Furter Dec 8 This movie is amazing. The entire cast is so great, and I am already in love with Jemaine Clement. Currently, I have watched it four times over the past four to six weeks, and it gets better with each watch. This is my first review on RT, and I specifically signed up when I saw that it had a 20% rating. See more Cheddars Mom Nov 20 100/10 One of the greatest movies I've ever seen in my entire life! I am entirely lost as to how it's got such a low ranking here, really shows how few tastebuds are left in the wider world 👀 Every actor was perfectly selected and immaculately portrayed the characters! The special effects were probably my favorite part, especially the surveillance does, it also had a fabulous set wardrobe lol I haven't felt this fulfilled from a movie in a really long time, and not trying to spoil anything, but the last 10 minutes of the movie had me warmly smiling and feeling goosebumps pretty much the entire time. Maybe it's just me, but this whole thing was good for my soul, definitely check it out 💕✨️ See more Read all reviews
