Dr. Ryan Stone is a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission. Her commander is veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky, helming his last flight before retirement. Then, during a routine space walk by the pair, disaster strikes: The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Ryan and Matt stranded in deep space with no link to Earth and no hope of rescue. While there is no way to truly re-create the wholly immersive theatrical experience of "Gravity" at home, the newly reissued Blu-ray comes closest — reintroducing a powerful Dolby Atmos sound mix and intriguing extra features into a more affordable orbit.

Gravity is a one-dimensional spectacle. Technically sleek but narratively weightless, it relies on visual wizardry to distract from a bare-bones story. The film opens with long, beautiful shots and an impressive sense of spatial immersion — then spends the next hour dragging out an extremely thin plot with endless close-ups of Sandra Bullock breathing. The setup is stronger than the payoff. Once the tension wears off, whats left is a hollow journey through increasingly implausible obstacles. It's not profound, it's not moving — it's just long.
