I really had hope for this film. Now I just want my 4 hours back.
Between 2.5 and 3 stars. It has all the good elements for a good movie, and a good Western: solid characters, social issues, a love story, wonderful photography... However, even the shorted version (with very evident cuts in some moments, or, if not, there is a proble with transitions) looks to have excess of minutes everywhere. It looks too much of everything to be perfect.
A sprawling masterpiece that is as relevant and visually stunning as anything done since its original release.
It truly is a lost classic.
Even with extra time, it only cements this as a boring, sluggish, grand spectacle
Tries to be far more than what it can actually offer
A violent western that, despite the on-set controversy, is a great example of director-driven films. Recommend for aure
Thoroughly enjoyed this film beautifully shot flawlessly acted superb soundtrack a testament to the hardships endured by migrants to the U.S.. As always still very relevant today!
Despite all the conflict that the production of the movie that made it infamous, there is potential shown from Cimino for the film to become a masterpiece. The story ideas also showed potential, but the pace of the film seems slow that had many critics complain about the movie overall. It's a film that is much acclaimed by today's audience, but is a worthy to watch if you're a western film fan or not.
Some movies end where this one doesn't even start
