Critic Reviews for Joy in the Morning

All Critics (5) | Top Critics (2)

  • Joy in the Morning, with television's teen-age idol, Richard Chamberlain, and young Yvette Mimeux braving the woes of young married life, is a soap opera for teen-agers.

  • There is an absence of anything unusual happening and nothing is accomplished to overcome this lack through strong buildup of characterization.

  • The film is a bit melodramatic, and the direction is uneven. Chamberlain's performance is average, and Mimieux isn't too bad.

  • It forces you to take sides with either workaholic Chamberlain or his neglected bride, Yvette Mimieux, neither of whom are particularly sympathetic characters.

  • Scrub away some of the gloss and goo and this story of young love might have been slightly -- but only slightly -- more credible.

Charming, if at times a little melodramatic, tale of a young couple trying to make it despite family pressure and other issues. Yvette Mimieux is excellent here, one of the to few chances she got to display her talent. Chamberlain is earnest if a bit bland, he does however sing the title song surprisingly well. A lovely little known gem.
