  • The director, Sean McNamara, keeps hitting the most ragged of cliché notes.

  • This premise would excel far better, and go much deeper with its targeted themes, in something like a dark comedy; that Mighty Oak embraces this delusion with no sarcasm and a lot of wish fulfillment is at the very least worrisome.

  • The music-oriented drama Mighty Oak takes some heavy issues, such as drug addiction and mental illness, and throws them into an overly saccharine story that's supposed to be uplifting but ends up being pandering and grossly unrealistic.

  • Somewhat dark rock dramedy has drinking, strong language.

  • This one just always seems to be a little off kilter. Obviously aimed at families, but having some weird elements that don't fit in to that style.

  • ...although the movie is shot and constructed in a made-for-TV style it's ultimately satisfying in its connection to the pop-punk scene. In that way, it's not surprising Mighty Oak also has a EMO heart.
