Possessor: Uncut Reviews

Huge sci-fi fan but there are not many films out there I love. This is a proper game-changer modern sci-fi instant classic. VERY violent but it serves the story and concepts. Kinda arty not Matrix 5 but very entertaining plot/concept that really resonates. Very well directed and great actors too. Definitely watch it before it gets spoiled for you.

Damn near perfect! Grest cast, cool concept and an epic sci-fi twist - do not miss it.

Cronenberg keeps some of the family preoccupations going whilst further distinguishing himself with this ultra-violent tale of proxy-assassins and the numbing of the moral sense, in this case Riseborough's; a killer about to void her own humanity. A clinical approach punctuated with horrific acts; a vivid color-sense, stylized photography, cold characters, hallucinatory montages. I averted my eyes from the screen at least twice. Cruel and classy.

Going into this I had no idea what this was even about.  Basically a secret organization uses some sort of brain implants to technically "possess" another person's body in order to assassinate specific targets.  Incredibly interesting premise that is sometimes confusing but always compelling.  Great job done by the cast.  Shockingly violent and bloody, more than I expected.  Easy to see the Cronenberg DNA all over this film.

I'm not quite sure if I love it as much as Antiviral (2012) – but man – POSSESSOR is a tour de force by the phenom, Brandon Cronenberg. If you thought Antiviral was just a fluke of a writing/directing debut by a legendary director's young son, think again. POSSESSOR will seep into your subconscious and linger for days. This younger Cronenberg still delivers some downright disturbing body horror imagery, much like his pops did for several decades...however, Brandon Cronenberg's far more subtle when it comes to letting his stories provide a not-so-flattering social commentary on the status of modern civilization. With his film, he leans towards a more Lynchian style while never once losing control of his own original vision. Absolutely essential viewing for any self-proclaimed fan of cinema.
