Ray Tierney (Edward Norton) comes from a family full of New York cops, including his father (Jon Voight), brother Francis (Noah Emmerich) and bad-boy brother-in-law Jimmy (Colin Farrell). When a failed drug bust results in the deaths of four of Francis' men, the Tierney patriarch pulls Ray into leading the investigation. But Jimmy launches his own investigation, compromising Ray's team. Jimmy's actions soon catch Ray between duty as a police officer and loyalty to his family.

The actors in Pride and Glory do their best with this cliched material, but the film is so grim, ugly and miserable that it's difficult to sympathise with even the most positive characters.

Pride and Glory boasts such a generic and instantly forgettable title that viewers might remember the film as Honor and Justice or Law and Order or Cops and Crooks or, with apologies to Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment.

Nothing to be proud of and certainly no glory to be found. Occasionally a cliched, formulaic movie is still enjoyable or at least has SOME redeeming quality. This is NOT one of those occasions.

I always enjoyed this movie. Still do 16 years later. Great actors and it's a storyline I haven't seen a million times. The ending was shocking.

Pride and Glory was released in theatres in 2008 and stars Edward Norton, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, and Noah Emmerich. It's a story about a family of NYPD officers and a corruption investigation that threatens to tear the family apart. The officers portrayed in the movie repeatedly lie during investigations, commit crimes, and even murder suspects. To be fair the acting was pretty good, especially Norton and Farrell, but the plot was just too ridiculous to take seriously. I get that they were going for a gritty police drama but all of this has been done before in better movies with better writing. For me this was an average at best cop movie with unlikeable characters and a bad ending. I'd skip this and watch Serpico or The Departed instead.
