What to Know

Critics Consensus

Turning the camera's scrutinizing eye back onto To Catch a Predator's journalistic legacy, Primetime interrogates the slippery boundary between justice and lurid spectacle with crackling style and an outstanding Robert Pattinson.

When the Predator crew teams up with a heavily militarized police force in a small Texas town, the sense of Primetime as a greater commentary on America’s cultural preoccupation with dominance comes into sharp relief. Go to Full Review

These performances are all strong; Pattinson, though, is overpowering. He may well earn hardware for his work in Primetime, but not because he’s chasing it. His adventurousness hints at something else. Go to Full Review
Justin Chang The New Yorker 2 days ago
Oppenheim zooms in on his characters so intently that he seems ready to claw their faces off, the better to penetrate through to their darkest depths. But what would he find? Pattinson’s dazzlingly contoured performance doesn’t provide any easy answers. Go to Full Review

Primetime enters that echelon of cinema filled with fantastic films that should almost certainly only be watched once. This, of course, excludes the memeification of Bobby Pats. Go to Full Review

Bring down the global pedophile cabal in the Epstein files. Then we can circle back on whether Chris Hansen was an unethical jerk. Go to Full Review

It’s possible filmmakers want to leave viewers to judge the ethics of "To Catch a Predator" for themselves. But the disconnected narrative feels like it’s only telling half the story, relying on great performances to try to hide the gaps. Go to Full Review

Elizabeth 2 hrs ago Pattinson’s acting was fun to watch but the movie was meh. I just don’t think the story was compelling enough to merit the movie adaptation. Feels like the kind of movie that should’ve skipped the box office and gone straight to streaming See more Marcus 5 hrs ago I know it's got serious serious real life themes, but this movie has the entire theater laughing throughout. great acting, great direction and writing. not what you'd expect at all See more Connor 7 hrs ago Felt like a Danny Boyle film. Great performances. Definitely a downer. See more Eric W 10 hrs ago Disgusting and vile. A film that attempts to paint predators as victims and those who expose them as greedy, self righteous sociopaths. This film attempts to make it's audience feel sorry for predators and actors. In doing so it hopes to expose the evils of reality television, but in truth it exposes the true nature of Hollywood itself an institution full of actors and predators. Again this corrupt institution uses yet another film to defend the grotesque and demonize those who would expose it for what it is.
