At 2½ hours plus, it also has its longueurs but there are some spectacularly beautiful moments and Gosling makes an engaging companion who makes something poignant as well as funny out of Grace’s unwelcome elevation to hero status.

I've always had great difficulty explaining why a particular film makes me FEEL so much, and sits with me long after. I just know that it means pretty much everything about the movie is special, from the acting, writing, directing, to the cinematography, costumes, etc. If it's done right, all the elements come together and really touch the audience in deeply personal ways. So all I can say is that everything about this film was extraordinary. Can't wait to see it again!
