Roman military tribune Clavius (Joseph Fiennes) remains set in his ways after serving 25 years in the army. He arrives at a crossroad when he's tasked to investigate the mystery of what happened to Jesus (Cliff Curtis) following the Crucifixion. Accompanied by trusted aide Lucius (Tom Felton), his quest to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah makes him question his own beliefs and spirituality. With so many horrible faith-based features littering the multiplex ranging from the ho-hum (Heaven Is for Real), to the inept (God's Not Dead) to the perfectly dreadful (War Room), it's nice to have one that treats its audience with respect.

"Risen" should be able to become, even nine years after its original release, the kind of film that any family should watch and enjoy during Easter. I'm sure they'll be just as (pleasantly) surprised as this critic. [Full review in Spanish].

With “Risen,” Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Aiello have come up with a story that we’ve never seen before, one that is in no way blasphemous, while offering up a “what-if” set of circumstances that are entirely believable and could have happened.

Great movie. There are some very good acting from Joseph Fiennes. Tom Felton performance is really solid, and I wish he had more screen time. The set and locations used for filming are really nice, especially for a relative "low budget" movie from a big studio.

This is actually second time I've watched it and had honestly was better than the first. Its extremely well done and very interesting to see it from perspective of a a Roman soldier. Also a great film to watch during the holidays to remind you the reason we are celebrating.
