it is pretty funny, I like Jackie Chan
Some of y'all taking this movie way too seriously, lol. It's a fun buddy flick. As good today as when it was released.
Chris Tucker at his best. All you need to know to watch!
Great action comedy movie
Its a buddy cop movie that is short and to the point. Jackie Chan is as great as always.
A hilarious unorthodox buddy cop comedy!
Brett Ratner's action comedy Rush Hour (1998) is a rush of fresh air in the comedy genre. Ratner's direction is pretty basic, but so fast paced that you cannot help but smile. Ross LaManna's story is engaging, if simplistic. I like how he shoves a competent Chinese policeman with a lackluster L.A.P.D. officer in America. The real stars are Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. They have such fun chemistry as comedic partners that you cannot help but enjoy Rush Hour every single time you watch it!
Jackie Chan is all blistering speed in his action sequences. He is more meticulous and deliberate in his punches for the Rush Hour franchise instead of his early Police Story breakneck speed. But it works as the fights are funnier than just amazing, although his physical comedy antics are still dazzling. His comedic timing is elevated by Tucker's hectic style.
Speaking of Chris Tucker, the comedic actor is all nonsense and delight in Rush Hour. His hyper diarrhea of the mouth performance is so lively and quotable that Rush Hour is a career highlight for Tucker. He does every ridiculous movement and silly line with total confidence and good humor. Tucker is not afraid to make himself look dumb and Rush Hour is all the more fun for it.
Tom Wilkinson is a solid villain, if horribly under-developed as a character. Ken Leung steals the antagonist show as the zealous murderer Sang. Elizabeth Pena is so sweet and likable as the bomb squad trainee Tania Johnson trying to cope with Tucker's harassment. They found the most adorable little girl, Julia Hsu, to play the kidnapped Soo Yung. Likewise, Tzi Ma is excellent as the adoring father Consul Han. He gives a greater performance than you'd expect in an action comedy.
Rush Hour has so many wonderful little performances that make the movie special. Philip Baker Hall is great as the sarcastic police captain Diel that just wants to get rid of Chris Tucker. Chris Penn is funny as the tough C4 salesman. John Hawkes even makes an early career cameo as Stucky, the informant in front of The Chinese Theater.
Lastly, I still like Lalo Schifrin's score for Rush Hour. In all, Rush Hour remains a fierce comedy classic. My whole family loves this movie to this day.
This movie is hilarious and that's the important thing. Otherwise, it's a standard buddy cop movie that is very "of it's time." Also has some pretty cool stunt work and fight choreography.
This is the best movie ever!
Jackie Chan and Chris tucker's Dynamic is comical and genius!
Jackie Chan doesn't need an annoying sidekick. That and the major downgrade in his martial arts were too much. This movie signified the end for him, in my opinion. Mildly amusing, but I'd happily un-see it any time.
This movie is actually pretty great, it has way to many negative reviews. Its definitely the best in the series, and worth a watch.
